Investing 101
Investrly was created to start the year with a focus on providing investing ideas, tools, and opportunities to help you on the path to financial freedom.
Creating an overall plan in the short term will help you over the long term to see results. It will also help you navigate the natural ups and downs of markets during the journey. A few basics to keep you/get you back on course:
Take control by reducing and managing your debt prior to investing.
Calculate and understand the inherent risks of any given asset prior to investing.
Do not use margin/leverage to invest. Leverage investing increases both short and long term risk while always putting you in a potential liquidation event. Invest only what you actually have on hand and can afford to lose.
Complete financial portfolio’s are diversified into a number of investments.
Start small to manage and understand your risk. Use patience to further learn your investments and add when it’s appropriate.
Terms of the Week
Sell-Off
A sell-off occurs when a large volume of securities are sold in a short period of time, causing the price of a security to fall in rapid succession. As more shares are offered than buyers are willing to accept, the decline in price may accelerate as market psychology turns pessimistic.
There are several potential triggers of a sell-off, which may include the release of disappointing earnings reports or poor guidance, fears of increased competition, or the threat of technological disruption. Broader causes, such as macroeconomic concerns or natural disasters, can also trigger sell-offs.
Correction
An asset, index, or market may fall into a correction either briefly or for sustained periods—days, weeks, months, or even longer. However, the average market correction is short-lived and lasts anywhere between three and four months.
