Coinbase launches NFT marketplace
The long awaited and anticipated Coinbase NFT marketplace finally launched this past week to a small set of beta users. Showcasing the ability to create, collect, and connect; this is a noteworthy moment.
Anticipation around Coinbase, the leading cryptocurrency exchange, entering the NFT market has been building since 2021 as the public company has over 89 million verified users. For perspective, OpenSea, the current NFT marketplace leader, has just over 1 million users to date.
This first version of the Coinbase NFT marketplace can be seen at nft.coinbase.com allowing you to explore a vast collection of NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain.
Many are unaware that Coinbase NFT intends to be more than just a marketplace but a social place for web3. Learn more about the brand’s idea around web3 social in their recent blog post diving deeper into their vision:
Thoughts: Back in the mid 2010’s when we began investing in cryptocurrency, Coinbase offered a simple app allowing for the purchase of three cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin). Today, Coinbase is now a public company offering you the opportunity to invest in 100+ cryptocurrencies, earn rewards by learning about products, and even has a “pro” version of their app with better fees/trade execution.
If you’re asking “what’s the point?” This is the first inning for the Coinbase NFT platform. It’s not going to change how you operate day to day, but in time, eventually, will bring 100x+ users into the digital asset space. There is opportunity for the patient and educated long-term investor.
