Hexagon brings verification of NFTs to social media
Twitter introduced proof of ownership to NFT profile pictures on their platform this past week via a hexagonal display.
There has been a wide range of reactions to the new offering, from Elon Musk being annoyed by it:
To us being excited by it.
Let us explain: Say goodbye to the right click saving argument because you now have a way to provably authenticate who is the owner of an NFT on social platforms. Twitter is the tipping point in a trend that will now see other social media platforms create digitally authenticated NFT profile picture links: Think Meta (Facebook/WhatsApp/Instagram), LinkedIn, Snapchat, TikTok and any other sites. Proving ownership of your NFT profile picture comes in a Hexagon on Twitter today, but will come with a checkmark, square, circle, or insert the verifiable display method you like very soon.
The importance of introducing proven ownership and authentication of your NFT is large. As the industry grows up and matures, the concept of “proven identifiers” in the digital collectible/NFT world serves as a massive security enhancement and will eventually be commonplace. We see this as a big moment in legitimizing verification socially and continuing to evolve a space seeing massive growth.
