You likely have noticed our strong move into a more complete and in-depth focus on web3 in 2022. We have long shared our motto with you:
The largest companies and brands in the world are now actively attempting to move from web2 to web3. Will they be successful? Only time will tell, but we will continue to keep you updated on the latest developments. This week, we focus primarily on the recent differences between two major companies trending in different directions (Meta & Amazon), plus showcase the larger market as a whole with an earnings showcase.
Meta Meltdown & Amazon Melt-up…
Last week, the stage was set for some of the biggest earnings moves stocks have seen in years. We’ve already seen a massive roller coaster for the FAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google) stocks. Last Wednesday, Meta, formerly Facebook, plunged 26% due to a disappointing quarterly earnings, increased competition, and Facebook saw a decline in Daily Active Users (DAUs), which is the company’s first quarterly decline in DAUs on record. This was the largest single-day market cap loss for a stock in history ($251 Billion). Facebook also said Q1 revenue would be $27 to $29 billion, also a miss from analysts. Ouch. On the contrary, Amazon and Alphabet (Google) beat earnings estimates and gained 9.5% and 7.5%, respectively.
Every earnings season is important, but this one really has reset many stocks significantly in either direction. It’s a great time to create a new watchlist: Read earnings reports, listen to earnings calls and make an informed decision. If some of these big movers are on your watchlist, wait a day or two for them to settle, then Dollar Cost Average (DCA) in to start a position. As a long-term investor, if one of your holdings has run up significantly, look to taking some profit by selling your initial investment. Paying close attention to this earnings season will make you a more informed investor and understand the significance to reset, readjust and rebalance. Keep an eye on some of these names this week:
