Popular NFT project Moonbirds founded by Kevin Rose of PROOF collective announced they were flipping to a CC0 public license this week.
A major flip because holders/investors who bought into the project months ago were led to believe they had full commercial art rights for the Moonbird they own as noted directly on the website
As you can imagine, the 180 has caused intense dialogue, emotions, and conversation around the web3 space.
While the outrage is real and raw. Noted web3 security expert OKHotshot, put out the point that Moonbirds Terms of Services clearly states they can do whatever they want and the generally important lesson of read before you buy.
The Moonbirds conversation around CC0 isn’t going away while your ownership rights as a holder may have. This story is just beginning to be written around the technology and your rights within it.
CC0 (Creative Commons) is the "no copyright reserved" option in the Creative Commons toolkit - effectively meaning relinquishing all copyright and similar rights that you hold in a work and dedicating those rights to the public domain.
